So this NON-kinfolk skinfolk questioned how a black woman with multimillion-dollar net worth could feel oppression, and I want to address allll this question carries.

Jill Scott wrote alternative lyrics to the anthem as a young artist, barely in her adult years. It still has relevance today, decades later. Then, she saw in Philly- a city of profound segregation and income inequality- systemic oppression of black and other people. Now, it still exists.

What someone who asks this question doesn't understand is that, no matter where Jill Scott went after she wrote those lyrics - waitressing, Wall Street, jail, Harvard, Grammys - the same oppression would exist, and because of who she is as a person, she would see it and want justice.

Some people make more money, forget where they come from, lie to themselves about the existence of oppression, and say things like, "If I could do it, anyone could do it. Those other people I left behind have no excuses." But a study of Ms. Jill Scott's extensive catalog lets us know that ain't her.

Anyone who knows about her and her career knows she is and has been and will be a "down ass chick," loyal to her people, even to a fault at times. She knows that no matter how much she makes, she is Jilly from Philly. She wears it with pride. It's called SOLIDARITY.

It's also called being a black mother. All the money in the world won't stop her black son from needing to watch his back as he grows into a black man in America. She's ours. And we are hers. She gets it and will not - has not - turned a blind eye.

She's one of many who understands that the achievements of individual black achievers like herself is no indication that what systematic oppression does to the masses is acceptable. But someone who'd ask what oppression she faces doesn't understand solidarity, empathy, love, Ubuntu.

I wouldn't expect someone who asks this question to understand these things. But maybe after reading this, someone who is open to learning will gain insight into intra-class solidarity among black people who are not even three full generations from the Civil and Voting Rights Acts.

Ah, correct me if I am wrong but what Francis Scott Key wrote... hold up while I check notes,,,is a land of the unfree for the enslaved black people of the United States. Along with that free part for white men

"Of course" to everything that you said.
And of course, with her being a Republican and all, she measures a person's worth by the size of their bank account...

I hope not only to never know what she really looks like, but also to forget that she exists, leaving her willful ignorance and shameless tap dancing to the fools who are willing to suffer her mess.

The idea that money or fame can eliminate oppression is wild.
Tell that to rich, famous Black women who have significantly higher maternal mortality rates than white women.
Tell that to rich, famous women of any color who are raped, shot & abused by men who are given a pass or a slap on the wrist.
