A follow-up for the "anything but poetry" folks: Why? (There are no wrong answers, and it's okay to no like poetry. I'm just interested in hearing why.)

I enjoy all kinds of poetry structures.

No favorites? (I'm not sure I have favorites. I have forms I prefer to write, and a few that I try and think, "Oh, God, never again!" but I enjoy reading most poetry regardless of form.)

I mostly read other things but I love to read poetry occasionally

for some reason, most modern verse I encounter that uses stricter rhythm and rhyme comes across as forced to me — but that doesn’t mean I don’t believe it is necessarily that way

That's a helpful answer. Do you think they're trying to force it to sound "lofty" rather than using modern language? Or is it too simplistic/superficial (like "greeting card verse")? Any examples you can think of/share?

How about a sonnet homage to roadkill?

I enjoy both.
Everything depends up the writer and my mood at the moment.

That's good! I am the same way, even when it comes to my own poems. I have to be in the right mood, otherwise it feels superficial or contrived. Superficial and contrived frustrates me when I'm writing it, and makes me sad when I'm reading it.
