It is weird to slow myself down and examine the French Revolution step by step, not jump straight to the Reign of Terror. There had been no Estates General for 175 years and people didn't know how to have one. That's amazing to really think about.

I love looking at the political philosophy that was discussed at the time, and questions about who represents the will of the people and how that is represented. It is still so important to reflect on.

There was a question of having a plebiscite over whether the king should be killed, with some wanting to do that so as to prevent the king's death, while others not wanting to have the plebiscite because it would imply the National Assembly doesn't really speak for the people.

It is fascinating too, to think about how people set different lines about what was acceptable or not. The king's death was easier to justify than the queen's, to many people. During the Revolutionary Wars attacking certain countries was more accepted than others.
