Can an actual #SAGAFTRA member explain why the strike means that #comicon is off-limits? Is it because performers' appearances have to be authorized by the studios whose properties that they're promoting?

Why couldn't they appear as independent contractors? If they want to be there during a strike?

In response to Atheist Spinster.
Their presence would be a form of promotion of a show/movie. They are not independent contractors in that way — they are members of a union.

Thank you! I just hate for the less wealthy performers, writers, techs, etc. to be missing out on potential income during what looks like it's going to be a brutal strike.

The public comments by studio heads thus far have reeked of tRumpist/Reaganomics approaches to labor.
