Can an actual #SAGAFTRA member explain why the strike means that #comicon is off-limits? Is it because performers' appearances have to be authorized by the studios whose properties that they're promoting?

Why couldn't they appear as independent contractors? If they want to be there during a strike?

Their presence would be a form of promotion of a show/movie. They are not independent contractors in that way — they are members of a union.

Technically, members can still do autograph signings or events "not related to specific companies or projects" produced under the AMPTP Contracts. So can attend ComicCon as long as do so w/o publicity — no panels or interviews promoting films or TV shows. But leadership prefers they not. (2of 2)

Understood. I hope that it won't affect actors' ridiculously-small cut of merchandising & other benefits of big fan conventions like this. Do #WGA members get any kind of a cut from aftermarket items like action figures & props?

That's obscene. Without writers, THERE ARE NO STORIES.
