I was having a chat with writer friends about how long it takes to complete a novel (80-90k) and we've all been working on ours for 4-5yrs average for our 1st novel. How long does it take you to write a novel from start to query-ready?

My most recent one took me 20+ rounds of revisions over the course of 2 years. I queried it twice over the course of 8 months within those years.
This is for a middle grade sci-fi 57K.

I think 1st drafts can be done in a couple months depending on the level of detail involved. Revisions can take forever depending on how many CP's and beta readers you have.

Timeline for my first novel (wip) feels that way so far, but mainly because real life limits writing.

I imagine there's huge variation between the first novel and all the ones that come after it.
