Genuine question: How would you go about banning guns? If it's true that there are more guns in America than there are people, how would a gun ban be implemented?
Steven Beschloss @StevenBeschloss
How’s this for an idea that should not be controversial: Ban assault rifles, not books.

Why in the hell do Americans need assault rifles? To inflict damage in a more timely manner? Notice he didn't mention guns. As for guns, they should be licensed, owners must pass a competency test, owner should have some type of insurance, lock box just to name a few things.

Look at the models used by other countries. We are literally the only developed country with this gun violence epidemic.

You realize he didn’t say “guns,” right? The fact that you instantly pivoted to something that better fits your preferred narrative only lessens your argument.

This isn’t Twitter. We’re not stupid.

1. Re-implement the 1994 Assault Weapons Ban.
2. Offer a government-funded buyback program. All guns received thru the buyback must be destroyed.
3. Require insurance for anyone who does not wish to participate in the buyback program. Reductions in rates for proof of proper storage.
That's a start.

1. Columbine happened during the 94 assault ban
2. What benefit would the person giving up their gun in the buyback program receive
3. Requiring insurance for the gun which is already covered by home owners or renters insurance makes what sense

Ban Assault rifles. Regulate Guns just like cars - need a license to own one - must pass a test demonstrating skills to use one - etc.

What is considered an assault rifle? How would regulating guns prevent crime? What about people who cannot afford licensing and testing fees? Why should celebrities and politicians have guns but not regular people?
