I never really thought about Hollywood’s depiction. That said, I did get an advance, I did get publicity…

As far as work location I worked around the clock for 3 months on book 1, 4 months on book 2 and all working from a small, hot office. @DrLisaK

That's cool that you got an advance and publicity. It happens. But advances are smaller nowadays, and much of the publicity needs to be done by the author, unless they are big names.

Yes, the advances and royalties shrunken dramatically. As has the public relations.

More and more authors are expected to do the heavy lifting when it comes to promoting the wrong literary works.

I say that writing a book is 1/3 of the work, editing is the 1/3rd & final 1/3rd is marketing.
