I initially joined #Twitter to engage with other public school #teachers . Hoping to connect with other educators in here. Are they any secondary Social Studies and History teachers on here?

Out of the classroom now, but taught MS history and worked with state HSS subject matter project. Still in CA public education.

Hi Christie. I retired when COVID hit after 37 yrs teaching 11th/12th grade Eng in a public h.s. in L.A. What kept teaching for so long was the Humanitas program which teamed Eng teachers with Soc Studies (and at times Biology, too) teachers. The war against public ed in the U.S. saddens me.

I thought about it at one point, but I couldn't bring myself to deal with the nonsense from parents and administrators... and that was in the early 2000s. Now? Oof.

But my mom was a teacher her entire career and my sister for over a decade. I care deeply about public education.

And my fiancee's son is now a freshman in AP US History. To be honest, I'm a little surprised at how... low the expectations are for the class. Disappointed, even.
