Prof. Timothy Snyder:
"That Trump will be tried for his coup attempt is not a violation of his rights. It is a fulfillment of his rights. It is the grace of the American republic. In other systems, when your coup attempt fails, what follows is not a trial."

Ugh. Prof. Snyder's commentary is so clear and insightful that it actually hurts. Love him.

That's true. I haven't even looked at it from that perspective. But it is absolutely correct. Under other circumstances the outcome would have been a very different story….

This part 👉🏽 “In other systems, when your coup attempt fails, what follows is not a trial."

I can’t believe it’s debatable whether or not “conspiracy to defraud the US” aka treason is punishable. Folks are literally arguing that presidential acts of treason are somehow 1st amendment rights.

Right, pretty wild!! That he doesn’t and his supporters don’t believe he should be held accountable for everything.

1st Amendment means you can talk freely about overthrowing the government without fear of repercussion from the government, but as soon as you enter into conspiracy to overthrow the government or take steps towards that end...
