I was 16 when I first attracted an older male gaze. I was wearing a new sundress I was proud of.

He invaded my space, making conversation. I got away from him.

I later realized that much of my life after I chose less feminine attire and hair styles.

I equated femininity with a loss of freedom.

Grade school. The staring, comments, finding ways to brush up against you. Anger at any indication that the attention was not welcome. Didn’t matter what I was wearing. I remember feeling relieved in my early 30s when I noticed that the constant attention/aggression had waned.
