I've thought this for a long time regarding people who leave their shopping carts in the parking lot. I'm sorry, but if you do this you need to rethink some things.

Nah. I return 90% of the time but if a retailer designs a parking lot with vastly underbuilt cart returns, I'm not walking half a block to return one. This theory assumes the retailer isn't creating too big a burden on their shoppers which is often the case. BTW, self checkout is now the norm too.

Shopping Cart Theory ignores disability & is pretty ableist. Wait til you can't walk back from the empty cart without assistance.

Being able-bodied is temporary.

Yes, this makes me sad. I usually try to put it back, but some days, my arthritis is so bad I'm lucky to make it through shopping. That, and having to make it back to the house on time (before the aide for the 92 yo leaves), has had me putting it carefully in a spot between the cars a few times.
