More Maui news via LATimes. Published & updated Saturday.

Stories of death toll;
some “how did this happen?” (Maui Co AG will look into it);
one grim hint of rising death toll to come — a story told by an apartment dweller who saw smoke, left, was caught by firestorm in car, fled to water.

It was the burned out cars that got me. I saw the line of cars trying to escape in an early video, only to realize there was no where to go. 1000 unaccounted for. When will people start treating climate change w/the urgency it deserves.

Yes. The utter destruction of a place, the community & the things that bind people together. (Also, NOLA post-Katrina)

Joni Mitchell, “Don’t it always seem to go you don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone” I hope we learn this lesson.

This LA Times story gets at diaspora & destruction of PLACE.
