My newest obsession is watching a YouTube channel called "Periscope Films" - their thing is that it's just digitized educational and documentary and commercial videos from the 1920s-1960s. The "Industry on Parade" series spotlight American manufacturing and, just wow.

A few takeaways:
1) We really are so far from that postwar industrial period and it's optimism.
2) There are many more women in industry than I imagined. There are even scripts that say "he or she" when talking about engineers and skilled positions

I've learned incredible things. There was a Uranium prospecting boom and bust over a 5 year period in the 1950s, Peppredge Farms was started by a woman on an actual farm, The Atlanta Braves used to be the Boston Braves and like 10 other names, There's a nuclear reactor at McMurdo on Antarctica ...
