Wendell Pierce has an important warning for Maui survivors. There’s more over on X, but this is a good start:

My experience as a contractor after hurricane Sandy. I purposely did not take on any of the 1st wave of work because in my opinion people were way too optimistic about how much they were going to get from insurance companies and acting like they had blank checks in hand. This turned out to be true.

It’s ridiculous that insurance companies are allowed to function as they do 🤬

For sure insurance companies are in the money making business but another issue is that most people didn't understand or read the policies they bought and didn't understand what they actually covered and at what %.

I think the reason a lot of people do that is because policies are intentionally written to be obtuse. Companies also make them more complicated with all the exceptions, etc.

Insurance companies should be required to explain their policies in a clear, straightforward manner.
