Is there any legal reason that reproductive rights/abortion can't be put to a national vote at a given national election? Or state elections for that matter? Any legal eagles out there have an answer?

Because human rights aren’t up for debate, period.

Seems there's an AWFUL lot of debate as states and the SCOTUS say what women can do with their healthcare. Can't see how anyone can say it's not up for debate...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't a State just do this recently?

Yes… I don’t remember the state but they voted to uphold abortion rights and the right to choose. It was because there was a law on the books in that state to make abortion illegal the moment Roe v. Wade was overturned, if I remember correctly.
