1) A lot of the polling falls under the same category as political polling - the sample is tilted heavily toward people who are pessimistic about the country.
2) The news media reports only briefly upon good economic news, while simultaneously giving "economic anxiety" reporting free rein

What people say about the economy is often just a reflection of how they feel about the current political leadership. Many people who said the economy was great under T said it was terrible as soon as Biden took over. It was the same economy.

Polling is an indescribably bad way of taking the national temperature. People lie. People simply don't change their opinion. Polling is the phrenology of the 21st Century.
