This is why bots will DM you: At the end of the day, #catfishing !

Trying to get you to do something or disclose intel that you might use as a password...

Peter, I've used 2 DMs to clear up something. Both were innocent, helpful and judging by our Spout friendly neighbor relationships, they were also appreciated. I have had a weirdo DM me. I responded: "...not interested in romance and I'm an expert in manipulative language." Ha, just try to scam!

Agree, I think! DMs from people "I know" are fine.

The problem is "people" who DM as soon as they create their account. No Spouts, likes, replies... just DMs!

General, real questions can be spouted to the world, like we're doing here! DMs are as bad as a cold phone call.

Yes, from people we know. Think I noticed an option for directing a Spout to be seen by only by the recipient. That seems far less suspect. Even though mine were innocent, I DO CRINGE when I see that red light.

I got a happy DM once. I even confirmed that someone hadn't spammed their account...
