School supplies for pre-k. I don't know how they expect teachers to buy all of this stuff.

Rich get richer, poor get poorer.
Teachers here don’t buy anything. We got the Range Rover Patrol, aka the PTA, raising money for field trips to Costa Rica. Kids buy a new $150 back-to-school box every year, and then pitch 90% of last years’s list. New Trapper Keeper and AirPods every August.

They don't. They expect public schools to fail.

If I was ever reimbursed in a lump sum for all of the money I spent for classroom supplies during my 38 years of teaching, I’d be able to afford to completely remodel my kitchen and two bathrooms.

"...how they expect teachers to buy all of this stuff."

School suppiles aren't bought in bulks? Teachers need to buy for themselves?

Yes. Read the thread for some examples. And if you think they’re well paid, no. They’re not. This practice is one of the many indignities teachers put up with.

They know that teachers became teachers because of their passion for educating children and will do whatever they can within their means to support their students and facilitate their learning. They counted on teachers buying school supplies for their students in that same vein.

Conservatives think children are good for working in factories, getting shot, "marriage", and giving birth. They're resources, property of the patriarchs and big business.

They don't want them getting an education that might let them live fulfilling lives as informed participants in a free society.

Teachers generally send out a common list of things needed that the district no longer buys (like toilet paper) and each parent picks something and sends what they can
And
Other schools just sen a list that each parent has to send for their child

Class supplies are either parent or teacher bought

When I was a cashier besides the teachers buying for the class, their spouses, family, and friends bought supplies too.

I don't know why they expect teachers to buy ANY of that stuff!

It's a job, they should be provided the tools to do that job by their employer

Kids working at McDonald's don't have to supply the potatoes!

My (recently retired) teacher sister, with three children of her own in public schools during much of her career, spent hundreds of dollars every year so that every child in her class had what they needed to succeed. This district was quite well off! Lord help the underfunded districts.

Part of why I stopped teaching - couldn't afford it! And that was in the 80s and 90s, even. Wish we'd at least have had DonorsChoose. 😥

Teachers bought because they cared. It became expected. My g-daughter is an English teacher. It's shameful teachers have to buy supplies.

I’ve made these purchases for my child’s kindergarten class. I’ve found I can get a lot of it on the cheap if I just keep my eyes open. Every little bit helps, right?
