A hungry kid can't learn. But I'm pretty sure those bemoaning free lunch don't care. Their cruelty is the point, and they rather have a less-educated underclass to control anyway.

Being poor to them is a moral failing, though barriers "polite white society" creates abound.

Yes and besides making these kids suffer in the moment it is well documented that lack of proper nutrition stunts brain development.
