Y'all, I just found this on YouTube. The Nicholas Brothers were tops, and even Gregory Hines and Gene Kelly flat out said these two were a one of a kind act.

This was great. Thanks for sharing. I'm home sick today so I enjoyed watching the whole thing. I've admired them ever since I saw Stormy Weather 4- 5 years ago. Just so sad that there "could only be one black"--Sammy Davis Jr, because they were direct competitors (and better!)than GK & FA

There doesn't need to be a competition.

Sammy was a great dancer.
He could also sing.
He could also act.
He had great comic timing.
And he did impressions, too.

The sad part is that so many performers of color weren't at all or barely allowed into mainstream media.

Sammy was basically crippled at this point, could barely walk, but could dance like there was no tomorrow.

And have you read Chita Rivera's book?

She talks about Sammy as well.

I'll add...
I watched movies from the 1930s and 40s since I was in utero.
I was a musical theatre performer for 20 years.
My favorite dance teacher is the mother of Jason Samuels Smith.

I KNOW this history & body of work.

Consider watching the video. This part I was referencing comes about 4/5 of the way through.

I grew up watching these. I probably first saw this over 50 years ago.
My point was we don't have to compare the few performers of color who were able to break through against each other.
