This is not a book I’m “excited” about or feel should be celebrated the way I celebrate other book deals. But this is a book I am beyond proud of and one that I hope will help students and teachers start healing conversations.

We fully acknowledge that *none* of us want to live in this world where school shootings are an everyday occurrence.

We also know that avoiding the ramifications of the drills (as well as the shootings themselves) is not fair to the children or teachers going through them.

I am beyond grateful for

I am also honored and grateful that Dr. Christina Chester, a chairperson for the NASP’s (National Association of School Psychologists) School Safety and Crisis Response team, will be contributing valuable backmatter to this book.

Maybe WHEN BREATHING IS TOO LOUD will even make people see that common sense gun laws need to be passed because our kids can’t keep living and dying like this. Nor can we.

Ignoring reality is not an option.
