Craig Wiesner @craigwiesner
Why just look at UPS! They caved in to union demands and now they are....... still thriving!

Absolutely. While on vacation last week, I ran into a UPS driver I'd known for over a decade before the company from which I was laid off, moved north and away from his route. After initial, "OMG it's you!," we chatted about everything including the potential strike.

He said during Covid, front office and admin help were laid off. because of the huge influx of packages, people did double shifts. "Corporate wonks raked in millions of dollars and didn't have to come to the office. It was incredibly unfair."

There were two tiers of compensation. He is in tier 1 because he's been there for 20+ years. The guys loading the trucks are in tier 2 and they make half what drivers make; get minimal health insurance or none; no paid days off or vacation OR 401(k).

He said he and his fellow drivers were going to walk to make it clear to management they cannot expect people to bust their butts for companies which abuse them. "UPS management is so bad about demanding work but not compensating for it. We decided enough was enough."
