Whoa!
A
In response to Read aBannedBook.
I don't regret any, I love horror, psychological thrillers, sci-fi, etc in book or movie form. The ones that actually scare me (not that I regret watching them) are the realistic ones. Misery. Cape Fear, etc.

You’re so right, the realistic ones are the scariest! I’m beginning to find real life scarier than any movie I saw or book read.

No regrets. I used to love them in my teens. I haven’t watched one in decades. I’m good with that.

I don’t like anything that’s too dark, gory or shows any kind of torture. I’m very claustrophobic too so anything with being buried alive or stuck in a place is a big no.

I also really enjoy horror stories, by old and newer authors. Can't imagine my life without my love of horror tbh.

Love them. Favorite genre of movies. There is only certain horror movies I regret watching or will not watch. The last part of creepshow, they Nest, Any of the Mimic movies. Because I'm terrified of the subject matter in RL. And don't even like them portrayed on screen.

I like Horror in book form, not movie form. I also regret ever watching The Exorcist! I like SciFi in TV or movie form, but find it hard to digest in book form. 🤷🏾‍♀️ I like to read and watch comedy.

Horror films, or books, that are not naturally possible (vampires, werewolves - that type of stuff) are right up my alley. But the psychological horror stuff is what I have a hard time with - Psycho, Deliverance, Misery. When it's actually possible, I can't deal with it.

What I really can’t tolerate is going in a “haunted house.” I’ve tried several times as an adult, but after a young adult experience where one of the live performers touched me and I ran out, I just can’t bring myself to cross the threshold. Only exception is Disney’s Haunted Mansion.

I enjoy some horror. Saw is a bridge too far for me — just too sadistic. Honestly, I’m more troubled by “real” horror. Like Deliverance. That is a movie I regret seeing. So disturbing.

I never watched Deliverance because of the publicity when it debuted. I don't find any kind of "torture horror" enjoyable. Give me creature features, or psychological supernatural horror, like Stephen King or Dean Koontz.

Love love love horror movies! Generally not into gore-porn (Saw etc.) but there's exceptions; saw an Indonesian one called Macabre at a horror movie festival years ago and that's brilliant! Give me a good haunting or possession though and I'm all in!

Horror? (Maybe not?) But the screams in the theatre when the Shark jumped onto the boat sure seemed like horror.

Love em!

I used to read Fangoria magazine.

The original Amityville Horror caused me to never go in a house with upstairs windows that shape though.

And my family is Haitian 🇭🇹 so I was told many innapropriate tales as a child. 🧟‍♂️

I love horror films for one exception. I just don't like slasher movies - but the rest (demons, monsters, aliens, supernatural) hell yea!

Agree. Anyone who can be stopped with a bullet is boring usually. I did like both Happy Death Day movies though.

@retiredlibrarian ^This link takes you to a trailer for the new "Exorcist" movie. Or at least I think it does - I closed it so fast I'm not sure.

Just sayin'.

My sis is braver than me, but "The Sixth Sense" scared the crap out of us.

Years earlier, she'd loved "Angel Heart" and told me I HAD to see it, so I took a date. It's a good movie, but I still believed in a literal Satan then, so it was a nightmare for me.

Agreed! Saw the Exorcist - hated horror films ever since.
My family loved Walking Dead series. After watching 1 episode, (Adult kids - Mom, it’s not that scary!) I had zombie nightmares. After that, I always went to another room with a book with headphones so I wouldn’t see or hear zombies. 😬

Not a fan of extreme gore and torture. Hostel films, Terrifier, House of 1k Corpses (and sequels), Human Centipede trilogy, watched once. Never again. I do love horror though, just more classic thrills and scares.

Not technically in the horror genre but Deliverance haunts me. Parent, and parent's friend took me (age 13!) along the first weekend it came out, and they had no idea what it was about. Just were fans of the star. HUGE MISTAKE! Parent ended up pushing me onto the sticky floor when it got bad. 😬

I LOVE horror movies, because it's all make-believe. 🤷‍♀️ The films that horrify me the most are ones like The Girl in the Picture and White Light, Black Rain because that shit ACTUALLY HAPPENED to living people.

I mostly don't watch them...and regret some of the ones I have seen. Way too scary for me. I kind of enjoyed The Shining but wouldn't watch it again. Evil Dead 2 was more of a comedy so that wasn't so bad.
