It's simple. Obama ran as a progressive, promised real change. Got elected and then turned out to be terms 3 and 4 of Dubya Bush, Moderate Republican. Voters wanted a populist who would listen to them. Trump lied & got elected. The DNC shoehorned the nominee promising more of the same & lost.

I understand it perfectly. The election of a Black President awakened the latent racism of a lot of White people, who know foresaw the day when they'll be a minority in America so they rallied around the bigot who would "Make America Great (White) Again."

Sadly, I think it’s obvious. I was so naive when he got elected, thinking we had turned an important corner regarding racism. And while some progress was made, the backlash created the Tea Party (pretending to be about taxes) which morphed into MAGA. It was a pot of resentment that boiled over.
