Fiction shows me people I don't know, leading lives unfamiliar to me and lets me in to experience it along with them. When I see parallels in our lives, it's great. I also like characters who are how I'd like to be! Like Catherine Oliphant in Less than Angels. Or I'd like to be her friend, not her.

I thinks it's probably one reason to read fiction. Fiction allows you to experience things you might never experience yourself & empathize with others, but it can also show you are not alone if it's something you have experienced yourself & you see your own thoughts/feelings reflected back at you.

Reading fiction opens doors in the psyche to suffering, yes. It also opens doors to joy, empathy, pain, resolving pain, and the marvelous mosaic that is life. #SBBC #TheStoryTeller
