You are right about parents wanting an explanation for why their kid is weird. Still feel sometimes but stifle. "why is she just sitting in the water like that?" at the pond."Because that's her favorite way to enjoy the water". No other explanation needed.

Good morning and thank you for explaining it this way cause it makes a lot of sense. I always saw it as parents trying to teach candy givers to stop harassing kids and just give them the candy. I never saw it as parents trying to deal with their own awkward feelings! Learned something today.

My 5 yr. old neighbor is autistic & can’t have candy due to serious allergies. I adore his family & we are close. He loves to dress up & go trick or treating w/his brother. I know he loves Pokémon so I always buy him Pokémon cards for Halloween so he gets something and isn’t left out. He loves it!
