I don’t know the numbers but we had modems way before that. Family biz. Had a terminal at home that I could log into the mainframe at the office. When you had to set the phone in the special holder.

Yeah that's ancient. Probably 300 baud. The baud stands for bytes audible. Using a phone line all the data is sent as sounds.

I know. I just don’t remember or had no reason to know. We’re talking 40+ years ago. I did not go into the family business, such as it was. I was a teacher.

38 years ago I put that 300 baud modem in my PC Junior which I had already souped up by adding a board that sped it to 5.77 khz and added 512 k of additional memory. Those were the days.
