It all started with Reagan. Everything wrong with our political system is rooted in Reagan policy: from trickle down econ, destruction of unions, wage gap, US debt, tax rate reductions, Social Security debt etc.

In 1985 (Reagan) the FCC decided that the fairness doctrine had a “chilling effect” on free speech. The doctrine was repealed in 1987. Right wing talk radio started right after this.

The doctrine seemed to have had a “chilling effect” on BS and a positive impact on people being well informed .

A podcast titled The Cornfield Resistance by the Professional Left recently did a No Fair Remembering Stuff series that illuminates how all this crap goes even further back than Reagan.

President Carter had signed the Mental Health Systems Act (to continue the federal community mental health centers). Reagan & the GOP basically killed it. So where did the patients end up.? On the streets. Homeless & untreated.

Exactly, that was the start of it,
add trump & the GOP allowing easy access to guns for all, and now we have a major gun problem

I've never understood why people hold Reagan up as some kind of good president. He was terrible for your country.

All true. He was the beginning of the end. He ushered in the era of the religious right and we all have paid dearly for it. Not sure what happened to that separation of Church and State; lip service I guess.
