Do you remember a book you read as a child? Not an illustrated children's book but one with mostly text.

I remember one that may have been called Ready Made Family, about a girl and her siblings who were in the foster system. It was about her fears of getting split up & how they stayed together.

My school librarian told me I had to read chapter books, she gave me Ramona Quimby. I remember The Phantom Tollbooth, and in middle school my librarian suggested Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry, among so many other books.

School librarians are amazing.

My 4-5 grade teacher had me reading Jane Eyre and other literature (he let me keep the classroom copy) but I was always a person who responded to the story rather than the level. There's some really excellent middle-grade fiction.

YA is still my favorite genre. It's the purest form of literature as the authors don't tend to use or abuse literary devices.

And quick reads as well.

I've never bought into hierarchy of books, either you enjoy reading them, you get some something from them, or you don't.
