Important bit of history this Veterans Day/Remembrance Day/Armistice Day: The document signed that ended the fighting on the Western Front on 11/11/1918–it wasn’t a peace treaty. It was a CEASE FIRE. It was an agreement to stop the killing so a peace treaty could be negotiated.

That cease fire, the Armistice, was only supposed to last 36 days, but it was repeatedly extended while an official end to the war was negotiated, which would have been much harder to do had combat continued. It took another eight months to agree to a full peace treaty.
