The reason I love the celebration of 50 yrs of Hip-Hop is b/c in early 80s nobody believed it would last. It was a local fad at most. Even NYC Black Media relegated Hip-Hop to 1 or 2 hours a week. SO the fact that I can ask Google to play T La Rock while I cook feels triumphant... #hiphopturns50

I was really into rap from about 5th grade until about my junior or senior year of high school. My dad hated it. Every time he would find one of my tapes, he would break them and throw them in the trash and I'd go buy another copy. 🤣

Wow!!! So glad you persevered!! My Dad was just annoyed that everyone was sampling James Brown and Isley Brothers tracks to make "this garbage"😂

🤣🤣 My dad was more into Styx, Steve Miller Band, Scorpions, stuff like that. He especially hated it when I was really into gangsta rap. 😂

🤣😂🤣😂 Now that I am a Dad, I can understand the concern, but not destroying your tapes! I loved what is now "Classic Rock"🙄 too! My Dad forbade us to play "Another brick in the wall" because of the lyrics "We don't need no education"🤣🤣
