As kids, we got to drink 7-Up (or ginger ale) on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve. The only other times we were allowed it were when we were sick with a sore throat. No other soda, ever.

I'm not sure if this was typical, or if it was growing up as a hyphenated American.

We were amazingly healthy when we spent the year t our grandparents. Must have been Grandmom's castor oil turpentine "medicine" .

Flat ginger ale, 7up, and Sprite had mythical healing properties on my Italian side

This!

And never, ever, any iced drinks!

I also learned not to hint at over-eating, because then I had to take a sip of Centerbe, which is this super bitter herbal blend green liqueur from the mountain that looms over our ancestral village.
