This is the front and back of mittens I knitted pre-pandemic. I find fair isle color work tough and had avoided it for years! I'm practicing it again and still find it difficult.

Wow! That's intricate!
I have a really hard time with tension in colorwork.
Would love to hear suggestions. I have a few sweaters with colorwork in the yoke lined up to work on.

For the mittens, I used the same needle size throughout but smaller size for the cuff ribbing, as usual.

So far it's working for me.

Me too! I avoided colorwork like the plague! The tangled yarns, the puckering and other tension problems. My friend helped me. I'm working on a top down yoke sweater and she helped me again. I'm a tight knitter: one needle size for non fair isle and 2 needle sizes larger for fair isle yoke portion.

that's exactly my problem...tight knitter, puckering with colorwork.

So use 2 needle sizes larger for the colorwork yoke...

Thanks! I'll give it a shot.
