Looking at my nephew’s High school student catalog here near Seattle. There are numerous elective classes available in computer science and robotics.

When I was in high school, we had Typing as elective, and I learned to type on an old IBM Selectric.

Typing, Shorthand, Bookkeeping, etc., Business/Office courses, often chosen by those not college-bound. I loved the IBM Selectrics. When we first got them, as School Newsppr co-editor w/typing skills, I soon found they were great for giving our paper a professional look, with columns, italics, etc.

A selectric, damn, you had newfangled hardware.

We had manual typewriters.
