Tax a religion, and that religion will expect to further dictate policy to get its moneys worth, bad enough that religious orgs already donate to political causes voluntarily as it is.

Why? Tax exemption implies acceptance by the state, so no separation. No tax exemption means the state is not involved.

The churches are already trying to dictate policy, we might as well get OUR money's worth.

"Because someone might overreact and retaliate" is a terrible reason to not do a thing (see Democrats and the filibuster, and generally the past 25 years)

Taxation would just be a defacto approval of their activities, just further recognition, and legitimization of their grift by accepting a cut of the profits. Their own worshippers being fleeced by their own religions is of no concern to me, I just don’t condone our government being a part of it.
