I'm interested what people's New Year traditions are.

I grew up with:
🔸️Pay Bills, put gas in car, Deep Clean the house & wash clothes prior to NY (thought was whatever you do on NYE/Day is what you will be doing all year)

We also eat a meal including:
🔸️Greens
🔸️Black-eyed Peas
🔸️Cornbread

On New Year’s Eve, we do a version of this tradition, that is just stoops & entryways.

On NY Day, we do a meal with 1, Sicilian, Nigerian, French & Japanese component to celebrate all our different ancestries, & a simple family toast at the beginning.

The whole extended family eats Japanese food together on New Years Day. My late husband was Japanese and New Years Day was his birthday. We talk about him, remember him and celebrate him, and eat great food together. #NewYearsTradition

New Years traditions passed down from the fam:
• Deep clean the apt
• Keep cash on hand when the ball drops
• At the stroke of midnight, run outside with a suitcase (to bring in safe travels). It’s a Colombian tradition.
• Eat 12 grapes
• Do what you love on NYD and it will manifest in the new yr!

Always have the house clean before NYD - including laundry.

Don't wash dishes or sweep on NYD, because you're washing/sweeping your luck away.

Don't take anything out of the house, but if you have to go out, try to bring something back in.

Eat pork and cabbage for good luck.

Ah, yes - always have money in your pocket on NYE/NYD, so you'll have money on hand all year round.

Same meal. But wear something new, have $$ in your pocket and don't use scissors on New Years Day.

I have been trying to change up some of my family traditions over the past year. All those Have To Do's is exhausting and I don't want to begin the New Year exhausted

Tonight, I repotted some overdue plants. Tomorrow I will do normal cleaning but not make my home hospital sanitary

We used to visit w my aunt and uncle at Venice Beach. My father bought a house for my aunt because she stayed to care for their mother. She and her huband were seriously poor. My mother used this opportunity to play rich, which they accepted (due to the house et al). It was seriously awful. 😐

My family traditions are much lazier! Watching football and world Juniors hockey. Chinese food for dinner. Trying to stay up long enough to at least watch the ball drop on the east coast! Going for a hike, or at least a long walk on NYD.
