Well, 2024 is off to an inauspicious start here in Japan. Ishikawa Prefecture got rocked by a big #earthquake , and now much of the north-facing side of the country is under #tsunami advisories.

As some may not be aware, it bears repeating that #tsunami are often a series of waves, and the first one may not be the biggest. If you are in an affected area near the coast, run for higher ground.

Parts of Toyama, Niigata, Yamagata, Ishikawa (Kaga Region in particular), Fukui, and Hyogo are currently under #tsunami keiho (津波警報), or tsunami warning/alert/alarm. #earthquake

Ishikawa Prefecture’s Noto District, out on the peninsula near the #earthquake epicenter, is purported to have been on the receiving end of a 5 meter #tsunami . No further details at this time.

There is now word from Shika Nuclear Plant that a check is underway. Preliminary reports are that no severe irregularities have been found (yet). It was noted, however, that one of the plant’s power supplies was knocked offline. #eathquake #tsunami
