It’s now just before 7 AM in Japan, and helicopters are providing eyes in the sky to assess the extent of the damage as the sun comes up. We can clearly see plumes of white smoke and buildings that have completely toppled over. #japan #earthquake #tsunami

One neighborhood in Wajima, Ishikawa Prefecture, has been reduced to ash by a fire that appears to be contained only by its inability to cross wider streets or jump the river leading out to the nearby port. #japan #eathquake #fire

Helicopter cameras are now clearly showing the damage on the ground. Many buildings have pancaked or literally tipped over. This apartment building in Awajima City toppled over, exposing parts of its foundation and leaving it laying on its side. #japan #earthquake

The death toll in Wajima City alone has been adjusted to 15 at this point.

After a search, I found that the 7-floor apartment building which tipped over during the #earthquake landed on and flattened a 3-floor izakaya called Wajimanma. I sincerely hope that it was closed yesterday for New Year’s.
