Cooking tip of the day: To cut a sandwich more neatly, do it in two stages. First, assemble your sandwich but leave off the top piece of bread. Cut the top piece of bread in half. (If you want a condiment on the top piece of bread, either apply it after cutting, or cut the bread condiment side up.)

Place the two halves of the top piece of bread on the sandwich (condiment side down, obviously). Cut down through the gap to slice the rest of the sandwich. This method is particularly useful if the bread is crusty or toasted, or the filling is soft (or both).

You won't be pressing down on the sandwich filling trying to cut through the top piece of bread, because it's already cut. Neater sandwich, happier life.
