My #awamori of the week is a special Seifuku expression made not with long-grain rice from Thailand (as is the norm) but Okinawa-harvested Hitomebore Japanese rice. The result is softer and milder than your typical 30% ABV awamori with a floral nose. Sipping it mizuwari. Kari-!

That was not a typo. Okinawan #awamori is mostly made with Thai rice, a relic from the archipelago’s central role in high-seas trade centuries ago. Formerly the Ryukyu Kingdom, Okinawa imported rice and eventually distillation knowhow, two primary elements of awamori, Japan’s original spirit.
