I'm NOT belittling anyone's losses, but I think the actual reason is that most of the people who were murdered were just 'regular people'. Unless the impact was directly related to you, you don't know unless it's publicized, like Anne Frank's diary.

A quick Google search provided me with a list of victims noted for their achievements, but most people aren't going to make such a search unless prompted.

Example: I can't name people who died in the Viet Nam war off the top of my head. I CAN give the name of a specific person who died in WWI, but only because I do genealogy and he was my great grandfather's brother (George E. Black).
