It launches the process of planning the work of a joint group of minesweepers that will deal with drifting mines. Detailed instructions for the ships will be developed over several months.

This mission will not be considered a NATO operation.

Why is this not a NATO operation? The ships to be used are from UK. Why are we tying the hands of the Ukrainians to preserve global food security by removing mines from the Black Sea?

My guess is that if NATO were to be officially in the Black sea and something went wrong (something involving a boom and dead sailors), there's fear we'd all be looking at war...boots on the ground and dead people galore.

The war is already underway. Putin intends to attack NATO. That's what the fake news about Ukraine kidnapping two Russians from Transnistria was about yesterday. Every day there is an Article 5 provocation.
