Colloquially in SoCal, they're June beetles.

In Tahoe, June bugs were similar, but huge and fuzzy (and very slow flying). They were like velcro. As kids, we'd catch them and let them hang out on our shirts til they bumbled off to do beetle things.

It'll be cool to see what others call them!
