So:
Spinal surgery is happening.
Recovery will suck for six weeks. After that? Who knows.
OR
I could suffer every three months with a shot to my spine.
What would you do?

I’m not sure what exactly the issue is with your back. I had lumbar double spinal fusion surgery about 8 years ago. The day after surgery I was standing without pain; I cried. Do your PT faithfully. The minor pain from the surgery was nothing compared to the pain I had before. Wishing you the best.

I had 2 lumbar fusion last spring. It was not an easy recovery but it was definitely worth it.

Steve - I sat with a friend’s husband several times a week to get thru the recovery. If this is the route you choose, plan food, plan visitors, plan activities. If you watch tv, set it up at the appropriate angle in advance.

I'd do the surgery, as long as there is no risk of a really bad outcome. There's a wisdom deep within you that knows what is best though, so I'd try find it and listen to it. All the best with your choice.

Do the surgery, get it done, rest, and have a great life.
You have to take a chance Steve.

If the surgery means the end of the pain, I’d get the surgery, good luck with your choice

Oooh sorry. Tough choice. It’s all about risk vs. benefit isn’t it? Do both work right now? Will risk of surgery increase with age if delayed?

The recovery sucks but the guy I knew had it and was glad he did. He was tired of getting the shots, and, after awhile, they weren't working so well.

If the shots are working, you could put it off, but you may end up needing it anyway.
