@Helenfeguson gun reform, in the US? Long overdue. Though looking at stats for gun ownership by household, it's clear the culture is a major factor in the US gun death issue, and that's harder to address. Do people need guns lying about their house in a civilised society? No. On the other hand are

the gun controls in the UK a good model? No, overly harsh because the last school shooting in the UK, that prompted the drastic change, was a failure of enforcement of the existing controls. Though some aspects of UK very sensible e.g. requirement for renewable permit, and gun/ammo kept secure.

You can pretty much say that about anything that's not water, food and shelter. Need? I don't need a motorbike. I don't need social media. I don't need a computer. Decent chef's knives. A dog. A family. Laws. Government. Roads. Gardens.

Humans lived for a very long time without language as such.
