I took my daughter to the women’s march 7 years ago today at the California state capital.

She was 11 years old. I wanted her to be a part of a movement & to know she has a role in creating her future.

She will be voting 🗳️ for the first time this year.

Voting for democrats.

Tell her for me too…I can’t believe we still have to protest.
As an older woman, remind her that women were not allowed to open bank accounts or credit cards without their husband’s signature until 1974 (I wonder how that coincided with no fault divorce?)

I learned that for the first time not that many years ago and I was SHOCKED.

I then learned that we had that here in Canada only a decade before the US (1964). My mom was 17 years old, so she was the first generation of young women who could do that without a husband's signature.

I can remember my mother getting a credit card and a bank account to build her credit (just in case something happened to my father) …but I do remember being anxious because my grandmother was not kind-saying my mother would end up divorcing my father/why else would she need her own money?
