Be glad it’s just lip balm. My kids might be traumatized by what they’d find if they had to clean out my house.

One day when I die, my kids will clean out the house and find enough tubes of lip balm to last them and all of my descendants through the end of time.
Naturally, they'll lose all the lip balms the day after they find them, but still.

If there ever comes a time when a friend loses a parent I think I’ll offer to do this with/for them. Maybe having someone do a quick glance to remove things that don’t need to be seen can help prevent unnecessary trauma or uncomfortable feelings. Sorry for your loss.
