We've been considering switching at least part of our yard to clover. If anyone has any real life experience or tips on how to do that, please spout off!

Micro clover is the best bet from an environmental perspective. It's less invasive a fixes nitrogen. It does brown out over winter though, so lots of people do a micro clover/bluegrass mix.
I design rain gardens and bioretention areas for rain water treatment and we use that mix for grassed zones.

I have about 60 SqFt of planting area in my new-to-me condo patio. I’ve had all the non-flowering weeds pulled out and am waiting for a bit cooler weather to plant micro clover seeds. No mowing and good for bees. Trying to convince neighbors to plant flowering ground cover instead of nasty mulch.
