Worked with an #acting #coaching client on a role whose psyche is fragmenting. As fiction, it's a safe place to connect with frightening and damaging impulses; the shroud of it not being real helps consequences of what the character experiences harm less.

But the mental and emotional toll can feel real if lands near our actual selves. Gentleness with ourselves, even as our characters are ungentle, is very worthwhile.

Really important point, and one overlooked in a lot of acting training! There are some great techniques for letting go of intense feelings after performing intense scenes, but being gentle with ourselves is probably the most important thing to be.
